Wide ranging research on dementia is gathering pace around the globe, looking for a cure for the disease.
From this we are continually learning new information on how dementia develops and how to manage the condition. While there is no cure at the moment, new drugs are coming through and some show benefits in treating some of the symptoms for given periods. By keeping abreast with developments, we able to learn and apply the latest techniques in supporting our clients. Our clients can benefit from collaboration between BMF and hospitals, academic institutions, pharmaceutical companies and other organizations.
To that effect we are already collaborating with institutions in South Africa and overseas. In South Africa we work closely with the Psychiatry Department at King Dinuzulu Hospital. We are in the process of establishing links with other hospitals; Prince Mshiyeni and Wentworth and Chief Albert Luthuli. We work with organizations such as ASWA which are geared towards health and wellness for the elderly and those representing the traditional healers in the province.
Overseas we are developing links with East London NHS Foundation, an exercise that will benefit institutions in both countries. We consult extensively with researchers at Kings College and Worcester University both in the United Kingdom.
